Obituary of Ernie Edward Choat

June 22, 1936  - April 18, 2018.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Ernie Choat. He will be missed forever.

Ernie was born in Leross, Saskatchewan and moved to Cranberry Portage, Manitoba at a young age. He was the 4th child born to James and Adeline Choat , he had 1 older brother Bill, and 2 sisters Hanna and Mayble. Ernie was an energetic and adventurous young boy and worked on the family farm until he started his adventures in the outside world. In 1956 he moved to Cranberry Portage where he drove truck for Frank Quinn, and met the boss’s daughter Diane. They married in 1959 and started their family. Dennis was born in 1960, and Don in 1961.

In 1973 Ernie decided to move the family back to Saskatchewan and return to farming near where he was born and there he built a thriving farm.  After Don’s accident in 1988 Ernie and Diane gave up farming and moved to Grande Prairie to start over. Ernie worked at the Canola crushing plant until he had a disabling back injury. He retired to an acreage that he built east of Grande Prairie and  he continued to work hard, that was his way.

He loved to camping and wood working and his yard was always perfect. Ernie was always generous with his time and talents for anyone in need. He took great pride in his family who miss him deeply.

He will be with us always.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane, 2 sons Dennis (Michelle) Choat, Don Choat, Grandsons; Kyle (Nicole), Cody, Christopher and great-grandson Mylo.

He was predeceased by his parents James and Adeline Choat, uncle Albert, brother Bill and baby Choat.

Celebration of life will be held May 5, 2018 at the Gardens 10402 111 ST. Grande Prairie at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
