Obituary of Paul Harold Borgedahl
June 4, 1932 – April 20, 2018
It is with heavy heart we announce the passing of Paul Harold Borgedahl on April 20, 2018 at the Beaverlodge Hospital.
Paul was born June 4, 1932 to Thora and John Borgedahl in Sexsmith, Alberta. Paul resided on a farm south of Valhalla Centre until he met his future wife, Jean, at a logging camp at Mile 110 on the Alaska Hiway. Paul was fairly shy so the relationship required some shaping by Jean’s Aunt who worked at the same camp. They married July 2, 1953 and moved to the Brekkaas house two miles from where Paul was raised. He worked for a short time on the telephone lines then moved on to be a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Beaverlodge and later at Davis & Olsenberg’s in Beaverlodge – working there a total of 33 years.
Life changed when Paul became a father on October 17, 1954, to not just one, but two daughters. Bernice and Beverly. Jean did not know till the very end of the pregnancy that there were two and Paul teasingly called her a liar but recommended she should go back and check again. They were blessed with a third daughter April 10, 1960, Terry Lynn. Paul never had any sons but he would put his daughters to work on the tractor, picking rocks, hauling hay or any other chores that needed to be done on the farm.
Paul was a well-respected farm machinery mechanic and the neighbors sought him out to do the repair on their equipment. As his daughters grew up they learned that hay wire had amazing solutions for many things that needed to be repaired or temporarily held together, and later on they also learned that tarp straps would do the same thing.
Paul, assuredly, never considered the legacy he would leave behind as he was working in that bush camp where he met his wife, Jean.
He leaves to mourn, his wife of 65 years, Jean; daughters Bernice (Mitch) and Beverly (Harold); Grandchildren: Clinton (Keri), Scott (Traci), Kamille, Pamela, Nadine (Bill), Willis (Katrina) and Amanda; Great-grandchildren: (from Clint & Keri) Tiana, Hannah, Colton, Taylor, Kierstin, (from Scott & Traci) Tanner, Bowden, Kirklynn, Luke, (from Kamille) Hunter, Rogan, Addison, (from Nadine &Bill) Alex, (from Willis and Katrina) Calleigh and Damien, and (from Amanda) Jessica. Also left to mourn are his brother Vern and sister-in-law Gayle
He was predeceased by his Mother – Thora, his Father – John, his Brother – Wendell, Brother-in-law Lewis, Sister-in-Law Bertha and his daughter, Terry Lynn.
