Obituary of Alvina N. Benn
Alvina Nora Benn (Letendre), born May 11th, 1950, passed away peacefully in Grande Prairie on March 6th, 2015. Alvina enjoyed life, family members and many friends and brightened the lives of many. A true treasure, Alvina’s lively spirit made an impact on many lives.
Alvina was an outspoken and hardworking woman, with both a soft heart and a strong mind. Always reliable, she started working at a young age and proudly held many titles throughout her life—waitress, housekeeper, bookkeeper, school bus driver, forklift driver and bartender (and occasional bouncer). Always willing to help an individual in need, Alvina was incredibly giving.
She attended Elmworth and the Composite High, where she played basketball and softball, and married Wayne on September 6th, 1968. Camping and spending time outdoors were a few of Alvina’s passions. She also enjoyed spending time with her precious granddaughters, often playing cards.
Alvina is survived by her husband Wayne, son Travis, granddaughters Murphy and Tyler, sisters Harriet (Lloyd), Dinah (Ray), Justine (Ken), Margaret, Mavis (Al), Edna and Linda, and brothers Robert (Ginny) and Rodney (Cheryl).
Alvina was predeceased by her parents Evelyn and Frank and her sisters Norma and Gladys.
Friend, sister, wife, mother, daughter, coworker, boss, niece, cousin, aunt and grandmother—Alvina was many things to many people and her presence will be forever felt.
Donations in Alvina’s name can be made to the Points West Hospice (GPHPCS Box 21215, Grande Prairie AB, T8V 6W7).
