Lester Oilund

Obituary of Lester D. Oilund

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Lester Dale Oilund at the QEII Hospital on March 24, 2015 at the age of 74. Lester was born at Johanna Haakstad’s midwife house in Sexsmith, AB on April 2, 1940, to Jens and Opal (Rosvold) Oilund. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Alexa, his sons Greg (Carmen) Oilund of Calgary, Darren (Chris) Oilund of Grande Prairie. His grandchildren, Sarah and Zachery Oilund-Havens, Brett (Delecia) Hoff, Macy Hoff and Rylan Hoff, sister Arlene (Bill) Currie and numerous other family and friends. Lester was born and raised in GP and met his lifelong love Alexa during high school. In the early years he worked for his father’s company Oilund Construction, and after he graduated from high school he continued working for his father for Cutbank Sawmills. Later he partnered with Carl Oilund and formed Evergreen Loading where he logged for over 20 years. He then followed his dreams of being an inventor where he partnered with his friend Dave Fenton and formed Ultimate Forest Products. They produced innovative logging and forestry equipment where he patented many of his ideas. They sold out their interests and he continued designing forestry equipment until this day. He never lost his innovative mind and hardworking nature in anything he did. He was passionate in helping out his son and daughter in-law at Cloak Medic Services Inc., impressing the young minds where he always thought outside of the box. His hobbies were soaring, sailing, skiing, hiking, singing, volunteering at the church and connecting with people. Lester will always be remembered as a man with a true servant heart. It would take many pages to speak of all the things Lester did in his life. Most importantly, he touched people’s lives, his conversations were filled with wisdom and he would stop what he was doing just to listen. He is a man who lived out his faith for the Lord. One of Jesus commands is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Lester lived this command to the fullest and his legacy will be a remembered as that, he lived his life on purpose until the day he died. If you were blessed to know him, we are sure he impacted your life in some way. A public visitation for the late Les Oilund will be held at Bear Creek Funeral Home (103 – 10920 84 Avenue Grande Prairie) on Thursday, March 26 from 7-9 PM.
