Obituary of Walter Rees Powell

September 8, 1934 - November 29, 2018.

With sadness we announce the passing of Rees Powell at the age of 84 years on November 29, 2018 at Points West Hospice.   
Rees was born and raised on a farm at Scenic Heights and attended Big Horn School and then LaGlace School.    After 25 years of working with the Alberta Wheat Pool in many towns in the Peace River country, Rees went farming at Buffalo Lakes.   He and his son, Ken, did grain farming and also raised bison. Rees and Eunice lived on the farm in retirement and moved to Lakeview Lodge in Clairmont this fall.   
Rees was predeceased by his parents Uri and Ella Powell, brothers Jack, Maurice (Barbara), Hugh and sister Una (Hughie) Lindsey.   
Rees will be sadly missed by his wife, Eunice, daughters Dawn (Erwin Friesen), Lois (Bruce Rutley), Jean Maxwell and son, Ken Powell.     He also leaves 8 grandchildren who all enjoyed many great times with Grandpa, riding the tractor and going camping and so many other fond memories - Jay (Emily) Friesen, Reid (Chass) Friesen, Ryan (Tanya) Rutley, Trevor (Victoria) Rutley, Tyson and Joni Maxwell, Stephanie (Colton) Trydal and Graham Powell.    Special great grandchildren are - Rhys, Carter, Celeste, Alice and Charlotte.   He is also survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis Powell.  Rees leaves many relatives and wonderful friends.
As requested, there will be no funeral service.   A family internment will be held in Scenic Heights cemetery at a later date.
