Obituary of Edna May Erickson

November 26, 1933 – January 3, 2019

It is with sad but grateful hearts that we announce the passing of Edna Erickson. Grateful that she went peacefully in her sleep, in the Grande Prairie Hospital with family around her.

On January 3, 2019 Edna quietly went to be with her heavenly father. There she joins her father and mother, Tom and Myrtle Meredith, 5 brothers and a sister that went before.

She was born Edna May Meredith on November 26, 1933.

Edna was the 5th of 12 children, and 2nd of 4 girls.

She was born in Drumheller Alberta and she spent most of her school years in Drumheller. When she was in her late teens she went to Edmonton where she worked at Weston’s Bakery.

It was there she meet Gordon Erickson and on June 5, 1954 in Edmonton Alberta, she became Edna Erickson.

Over the course of their 64 years together they were blessed with 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls.

Gordon and Edna lived in many places and lived in many houses, but one thing about Edna, it didn’t matter where they lived she always turned a house into a home for her family.

Edna had a few occupations, waitressing, dishwasher, but her greatest one was cooking. She loved to cook.  But her greatest joy, besides her children and grandchildren were her crafts and how she loved her crafts.  Sewing for the family, crocheting, quilling and her cards.  She made beautiful cards. Edna spent many hours over each and every card she made, they were never slapped together and each one was made with a labor of love.

Edna leaves behind her husband Gordon of 64 years. children; Doug, Brian, Beverley, Debbie, Beth, Tammie and Bruce.  Her sons and daughters-in-law Audrey, Gail, Bill, Steve, Andy, Harley and Vicky; 27 grandchildren, 37 great Grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild; brothers; Donny, David and Wayne and sisters Delores and Marilyn and many nieces and nephews and brother and sister –in-laws.   Edna will be greatly missed by the main people whose lives she touched, and there were many.

When I am Gone

When I am gone, release me - let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that we had so many beautiful years.
I gave you love. You can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love each have shown,
But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must.
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart,
You will hear all my love around you soft and clear.

Then, when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and say Welcome Home.
