Mary Shura (nee Bombier)
February 10, 1929 – May 3, 2019
Mary Shura passed away Friday May 3, 2019 at Prairie Lakes Seniors Community (formerly Pointswest Living) with family and very compassionate caregivers by her side.
Mary was born in Wienzowiec, Poland on February 10, 1929 to Victor and Nettie Bombier. She was 10 years old when they set sail on the ship BATORY from Gdynia, Poland and arrived in Halifax on April 5, 1939. They then travelled by train across Canada to Rycroft. She married James Shura on June 13, 1949 and they farmed for many years in the Woking area. They raised two daughters Marlene and Liz and she gained two wonderful sons-in-law Steve and Terry. Then she got the best gift of all; her grandson Shayne and her family was complete.
Mary was a very social person and loved to sing and she was also devoted and involved with the Woking Greek Orthodox Church. She had many special friends dear to her heart.
Mary is survived by two daughters Marlene (Steve) McLaughlin of Woking, Liz (Terry) Kushner of Grande Prairie, grandson Shayne McLaughlin (Jasmine Holtner) of Grande Prairie and many relatives and dear friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband James, mother and father Nettie and Victor Bombier, brother Walter Bombier, sister-in-law Mary Bombier, mother and father-in-law Fedora and Sawa Shura, sister-in-law Alice and brother-in-law Harold.
A Funeral Service for Mary will be held on Friday May 10, 2019 at 10:00am at the Woking Community Hall in Woking, AB. with Father Alex officiating. Mary will be laid to rest at the Greenway Cemetery following her service.
Following her interment, family and friends are invited to join the family in the Woking Community Hall for dinner and fellowship.
