Obituary of Aimee Janet Carter
August 5, 1926 – October 26, 2019
Aimee Janet Carter (93 years) passed away peacefully on Saturday October 26th at the QE II Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Aimee was born to Elmer and Sadie Flaten on August 5, 1926 at her parents’ home near Valhalla Centre, AB, where she held the title of first baby to be baptised at Valhalla Lutheran Church. She attended a one-room school in Molde just a short distance down the road, high school in Hythe, and Business College in Grande Prairie.
She then found her first job at the local Royal Bank. That was a big deal back in those days, so she was very proud to have had the opportunity. It was while working at the bank she met Adley Carter, the love of her life. They were married at the Catholic church in Grande Prairie on June 30, 1945 and they celebrated with a luncheon at the Valhalla farm.
Aimee and Adley made their home and raised 5 children on the Carter family farm along the Emerson Trail. They had 40 busy and happy years working side by side. Mom was widowed in 1985 and with strength and determination she spent another 14 years living alone on the farm. She was grateful to have the Scenic Heights community during that time.
In 1999 she moved to Grande Prairie to enjoy her new condo and “city life”. She was always on the go and travelling when she could.
Her passions in life were family and friends, socializing and looking out for others. We are all grateful for her loving and generous spirit.
Aimee is survived and will be greatly missed by her children Darryl (Noreen), Lois (Mike Stefaniuk), Colin (Noreen), Roy (Allana), Lola (Frank Wright); Grandchildren Lauri Carter, Mikle Carter (Kyle), Mark Stefaniuk (Shannon), Megan Buffin (Andrew), Dakota Carter, Alika Carter (Noah), Mikhial Carter (Heidi), Jarin Carter (Amber), Alle Carter, Jillian Wright (Cam), Robbie Wright (Mike); great granddaughters Portia, Tianna, Veya, Adley, Ole, Lloy, Mara, Kinley, Klair; great grandsons Dustin, Olin, Arlo, Cutter; sister-in-law, Maisie Paquette(Joe); special niece, Janet Palechek (Phil) and long time family friend Gerald Logan.
She was predeceased by her husband Adley Carter; sister Effie Moe; brother Gilman Flaten; great grandchildren Karys & Kalyb Bidewell.
The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and care of her family physician, Dr. Olubukola Maxwell, private care aide Melodie Gaboury, and all the wonderful staff at Emerald Gardens, Mackenzie Place and Avondale Cottage (Prairie Lakes) for making Mom’s journey just that much brighter.
Aimee’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov 2nd at 11am, Clarkson Hall, Evergreen Park, Grande Prairie, AB.
Her final resting place will be alongside her husband Adley at the Emerson Trail Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Aimee Carter can be directed to The Community Foundation of Northwestern Alberta, No. 200, 11330 - 106 Street, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 7X9.
All funds will be used to support local senior programs.
