Tracy and family, thinking of you all at this time. I am so glad we came to visit last fall. We had so much laughter, as you have to have with Gary and still we had our tears which were for us. I am glad he is at peace now and no more pain. I am planting an orange rose for him in my memorial garden and will remember him and you with every bloom.

To the Kostiuk family. I was so sorry to read of Gary’s passing. While younger than me. Gary was raised two houses over from ours in Edson so would see him often . After I was married, I moved onto the same street and would often visit with his parents in passing until they moved. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

With sympathy to you, Tracy and family. Who can ever forget the hot tub parties, the Volleyball National celebrations and ‘concert – before and after parties’ we shared with you and Gary back in the 90’s….. and always with Gary in the midst or usually leading the fun we all shared….And the headaches that usually followed the next day! Our sincere condolences to you all but as you are well aware Gary’s fabulous smile & joyous spirit lives on in your children and grandchildren forever. Take care and cherish the memories. You are all in our thoughts.

Gary was our family’s optometrist. Through this association over the years I learned al little of the man. He was a special human being and I have missed him. It is sad to here that he is gone from this world. My heart and prayers reach out to his family. God does not give us any guarantees of how or how long we are to be blessed by someone’s presence in our lives. Gary’s life may have been short but his presence was a special blessing. I am grateful to have known him.

We never know what life will bring us and we experience many ups and downs. Through all Gary’s ups and downs he remained positive and cheerful and always had time for friends and family. He will be missed by many. Keep a smile in your hearts as a memory of him. Your tears are a reflection on how much you loved him. Hold on to that love now and keep it in your hearts. Physical bodies leave us however love lasts forever and can never be taken away from us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you now.

To the Kostiuk Family, Gary and I attended school together in Edson, he was a year ahead of me. We spent some fun times together with the Edson Canoe and Kayak Club. My Step father was an optometrist and I remember Gary having a few conversations with him because he was interested in becoming an optometrist as well, I like to think my stepfather made an impression, because as Gary, he was a wonderful man too. I remember running into Gary a few times over years and meeting you Tracy. He very clearly loved you. He was alway genuine, funny and solid. He is truly on of the better men that I can say I have ever had the privilege of knowing. My heart goes out to all of the family, My sincerest condolences.

Our sincerest condolences to your family. Gary was our family optometrist until sadly he had to retire. During my appointments the last few years he was always eager to discuss MS research he was following. He was patient, kind, and very informative. He always asked about the boys after they were grown and had moved away. He was also a hockey dad extraordinare when our son, Adam, and Ryan started playing hockey. I am forever grateful he spared me from snowy, out-of-town driving when Dale was working a weekend once. Our thoughts are with you as you share precious memories. Cate and Dale Sazwan

Tracy, so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. I first met Gary in 1976 when we played hockey against each other in Edson when we traveled there from Yellowknife and I ran into him at Red Deer College 2 years and we struck up an immediate friendship and shared an apartment the year after for a few months. After College we moved on with our lives and I hadn’t seen him since, however I remember him as a funny, kind and generous person. It sounds like you and he have had an amazing life and will have great memories of him. Rose and I both send our sincere condolences.

Tracy and family. Gary was my optometrist when I was 16 years old. I’m now 41 so it was a little while ago. What I remember so clearly about him was his gentle, kind and caring approach especially when he was explaining things to me. He always made me feel comfortable in the office and was never condescending or dismissive despite my age. When I worked as a waitress at the Dunes I remember him playing men’s league and seeing a different side of him yet again. Fun loving, engaing and a real life of the party man. When I heard of his diagnosis of MS I was so shocked and saddened. Of course no one ever deserves that but it felt so terribly unfair for him in particular to have his vitality and movement taken. I have not seen Gary in years but the memories I have of him are all good ones, those of a very kind and generous man. My thoughts are of him today and all of you. – Sincerely Deanna Reiswig

To Tracy and family, As a younger cousin, I always looked up to Gary as a strong role model. His athleticism was truly inspiring. His perseverance through all his years of university, taught me that if you set your mind on a goal, you can achieve it with hard work. He has now left a legacy in his 4 children, for they possess these same attributes. Even during his battle with MS, Gary showed me that you, his children, and grandchildren always came first. Hold on to the memories, knowing that he is at peace. Our sincerest condolences. Love you all…..
