Obituary of Leslie Alexander Noel

July 9, 1957 – September 17, 2016 It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the family announces that on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the age of 59 years, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Leslie Alexander Noel passed away, with his family by his side. Les was a long time resident of Grande Prairie. He was born on July 9, 1957 in Huntingdon, Quebec and was the first of 4 children of Joan and Alex Noel. In 1973 he met the love of his life, Maggie (Margaret) Kim Hyland, while they were in high school together. It was a match made in heaven and they were married on August 5, 1978. They were blessed with the birth of 3 children; Bryan, Rebecca and Meghan. Les moved to Grande Prairie in 1979 and he first worked for AGT. In October 1980 he started his employment with Proctor and Gamble, which later became Weyerhaeuser in 1992. Les loved spending time with his family and friends, teasing his grandbabies, camping, playing cards, travelling, playing hockey and flag football. He enjoyed many hours watching his children play sports, including: hockey, baseball, figure skating, mini basketball and soccer. He dedicated over 20 years to coaching football. Les coached the Peewee Rams, Grande Prairie Broncos, St. Joe’s Celtics and the Sexsmith Sabers. Les will be lovingly and forever cherished by his wife Maggie; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Jodianne Noel and their children: Alex (Drea), Tristan, Emily and Gage; daughter Rebecca Noel and her children: Levi, Kianna and Masen; daughter and son-in-law Meghan and Kyle Monkman and their child Deighton. He is also survived by his father, Alex Noel (Duncan BC); his sisters; Debbie (John) Morris (St. Catherines, On); Tracey Hunter (Niagara Falls, ON); brother Jim (Karen) Jones (Regina, Sask); sister-in-law Darlene (Lynn) Crosby (Stevensville, ON); Brenda (Jim) Williams (Stevensville, ON) and very special friends; Roy & Robin Hancock (Orangeville, ON) Real & Lyne Gagne, Bob &Marie Froehlick, Tim & Jan Warr and numerous aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces and nephews. Les was pre-deceased by his brothers, Matthew Trent Noel, Mark Morgan Noel, his mother Joan Violet Noel; father-in-law Arnold Wesley Hyland and mother-in-law Margaret Beverley Hyland. The family would like to extend a very special thankyou to : Dr. Barry Norris, Dr. Eudit Trollip, Dr. Dean Reuther (Calgary), the Grande Prairie Cancer Clinic, the Emergency Room staff at QEII Hospital, Rob Smith, Grande Prairie Home Care, and our entire football family. A public visitation will be held at St. Joe’s High School on Thursday September 22 from 7-9 pm. A Celebration of Life for Les will be held at the Entrec Center Evergreen Park on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 3pm. Please wear your favorite team jersey.
