Obituary of Clarence Raymond Gunsolley

It is with tremendous sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Ray Gunsolley. He was born on April 26th, 1936 in Dawson Creek, BC, and passed away on November 4th, 2016 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Ray was a loving dad, husband, brother and grandfather. Ray’s dad passed away when he was 8 years old, and he and his 2 sisters and a brother were raised solely by his mother, Lucille, in Dawson Creek, BC. He served in the reserve army and attended Business College at St. Joe’s, loved playing hockey, learned scuba diving, and liked to ride his motorcycle, play guitar and go dancing. Ray was married to Sheila Lever on November 8th, 1961, and together they had 5 children: twins Kelly and Candace, Wendy and twins, Raegen and Robert. Ray worked in the oilfield most of his life. His travelling with the oilfield started in Slave Lake and Edmonton, and then around the world. In 1970 he worked offshore rigs starting in Australia and Malaysia, then to Scotland and Africa, finishing up in Brazil in 1985. Returning to Canada, he lived in Edmonton, Whiterock, BC and Grande Prairie, all for his family. He was a hard worker and liked to stay busy and could do anything he put his mind to and so as it was too early to retire, he got his real estate licence, and took welding and key cutting courses. He drove taxi and worked at a couple of different gravel pits, and was a delivery driver for Risley. You could always find him putting stuff together or taking it apart! In 2008 Ray underwent surgery for a bleeding ulcer that nearly ended his life and it was at this time that he was diagnosed with dementia. From this time forward, Dad was in and out of various care centers as his illness progressed. The family would like to thank Dr. Renfree and all the nurses and other doctors for the care and support throughout his illness and especially everyone during the last few days at the QE11 Hospital (5North). Ray leaves to mourn his wife, Sheila; son Kelly Gunsolley; daughters Candace (Kimm) Horsburgh; Wendy deBruyn, and sons Raegen and Robert Gunsolley. He is also survived by grandchildren: Christefer, Vincent, Graham and Heather Fry & Chelsea, Sharlea and Jolene deBruyn, his sister Marguerite Ramey and brother Bill Gunsolley. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Lee, mother Lucille, and sister Marian Boyd. A small service for Raymond Gunsolley will be held at a later date in Dawson Creek, BC.
